The Final Countdown

Click here to open in a browser so that videos will appear.

Another Mother's Day meant another dilemma - what to do about the front door wreath nest!  I rotated it daily to prevent Mom from nesting here, but she just worked harder and faster until one day - there was one egg:-(  And then four, but now back to three.  Oh, I pray there hasn't been a snake on my door!  And I pray the babes won't ruin this wreath... again.  We'll have to be even more vigilant next year:-(

I patiently waited through beautiful March and April, so all I wanted for Mother's Day was help planting everything I'd gotten at my first venture to Millmont in Waynesboro.

Hopefully these guys will grow into something like...

...the beautiful results of two years ago when Mom and Dad helped me plant!

The copper mop-head keeping watch over the neighbors.

How can laying in the tracks be comfortable?
Nope, not chewing.  Just passed out cold.  Weirdo.  But we love her.

Mid-May Bounty!

Oh, the things these two come up with!

Swinging on the footrest - why not?!?

Olivet beautifully present communion...very thoughtfully done.
Curbside pick-up, complete with hand sanitizer.

I don't know where this began, but they love to kiss their success.

Another decent one!

His front teeth are barely growing back in, but he won't let that stop him from a favorite meal.

Preddy Creek trails - our first visit since three bike upgrades (Michael, Andrew and Margaret).

The best part of a multi-use trail!

We found the bridge this time!

And the horses found the water!

Matthew and Jack with their frog; we did not capture the swimming snake:-(

My fisherman
The wallabIES finally arrived in the neighborhood.  A few years ago when the HOA approved the house pet and the single many built the HUGE fence in the back (which cannot be scene from the road, only from the Meadow), the adoption did not transpire because the mother killed the baby!  But now, there are two babies adopted from Florida.  His mom carries them around in the baby pouch, and the basement has been set up as their jumping area since they are too young to go outside??  And, no.  Apparently they cannot be house trained.  And, no. I am not kidding about any of this.

I have no idea.

The end of the school year looked nothing like usual, of course, but it was fun to have the teachers drive by, honking and waving with signs.

Another year.  Another nest. The kids don't get why I don't appreciate them:-(

Andrew was invited to play in "safe" lax with 5 other kids for 2 weeks.  Their coaches were STAB seniors.  Their playground was the Lynch's house.  Yeah, as in William Lynch, the President of Peloton.  Lovely sport court in the side yard.

And a back yard to drool over.  Nothing fancy. No landscaping. But there simply are not spaces in Charlottesville that are this FLAT and big, except for built school fields.  What a backyard for a lax family!

From the sport court down to the main backyard...makes for a perfect sprinting drill!

Penny was spayed...and told to be calm and quiet for 10 days.  Holy cow.  I have done few harder things in my life.

AHS graduation for Daniel!  What a road this young man has traveled.  His parents are some of the most amazing people we know----hands down the most patient and God-centered folks.  What they have done and will continue to do for their son is admirable beyond words.

Off to the mountains to escape the heat!

My early morning fishing buddies.  They would do it every single day!

Matthew was so desperate to play golf, he hit on the range by himself for who knows how long?!?

His first river fish (solo!) in the mountains!

Happy 52nd anniversary - keep warm (it was freezing!)!

We had champagne and cider...and a handmade dinner invitation:-)

What a meal the kids created!  Complete with placecards:-)

The new mountain coaster!

There's no wait when it's 48 degrees and raining (no exaggeration)...

...and yet, there are still smiles:-)

Flat Top & Unconventional Anniversary

Click here to open in a browser so that videos will appear.

Unsure what's "okay" to do in quarantine and what's not, our family get-together in Baltimore to remember Dave (celebrating what would have been his 80th birthday and remembering him 25 years after his death), was cancelled/post-poned.  Again unsure what's really okay and what's not, Susan came to visit.  It's been a long, hard spring for everyone, but living alone (in any scenario) has been particularly isolating.  So after 10 years being here, we finally got up to Flat Top!

Bev has been a dear friend of Susan's since her days with Ward at Flat Top. Her cabin on the mountain is delightfully peaceful.

Beautiful views and some interesting houses on Flat Top!

Dean was a dear friend of Ward's.  He built an Observatory on Flat Top that is still there!

View from Dean's Observatory.

Wonder what that was?!?

Can you see it?!?  The wind caught the (merely 2-week old) drone and crashed it HIGH into a tree.  The unwelcome adventure that followed (including bush-whacking, climbing, slashing and thrashing) was actually successfully, thank goodness!

Andrew asked if we could do communion for Grandma since her church hasn't been able to.  What a sweet idea.  Thanks to Olivet for the on-going elements!

And the Ukulele sessions with Grandma were in full swing!

What fun this is!!!!

"This Little Light of Mine"

Our 15th anniversary May 21 was not what we'd planned, to say the least.  For more than year, we'd been making arrangements for a trip to Spain---our first kid-free adventure since Israel in 2011 (which was wonderful in so many ways, but not really vacation). But alas, COVID had other plans.

We'd had good attitudes about it all, even completing the Barcelona puzzle we got for Christmas to get us excited.  But the actual day was tough...
1 - It was cold and rainy.
2 - The kids were bored, 2 months into being home with insufficient school work and no activities on the books.
3 - Michael was on the road.
4 - Greystone officially cancelled the entire summer. So very sad after celebrating 100 years in 2019.
5 - Our dear Janey was leaving Charlottesville for the last time and we had to say goodbye, without hugging:-(

But the kids did an amazing job of lifting our spirits with giftS we had no idea about.

They found this and ordered it all on their own!  How appropriate during Quarantine when toilet paper is no where to be found!

And then, the video.  Mostly working from home, I'm still in the church office Tuesdays.  So apparently, Tuesdays this spring they plowed through their work quickly and then put this together....

The pictures are poor, perhaps because they were taken 15 year ago with traditional film, processed, then digitized, put in a digital album, printed, pictures taken with a phone of the album, then uploaded to a computer before finally landing in another video.  Wow - the pictures must be exhausted!

 Truly un.be.lievable.

Our take-out dinner several nights later to celebrate.

COVID or not, grateful for this man and our lives together.
To God be the glory - great things He hath done!

MayCember

Our usual "Mayhem" has morphed into creative ways of doing, well, ALL of it.  Everything is online now.  Creative in some ways, too much in others, it's now just as occupying as life was before, just not driving.

Our annual fundraising event in DC turned into a "Party in a box".  Gotta give their marketing team credit for coming up with something after folks had donated $5-10,000/table to attend.

May 3 was packed with our "Drive-By" Awards Ceremony and Dad's birthday celebration.

After participating in AWANA since Pre-K, Andrew officially finished the program.  Receiving his Timothy Award, it meant that he had memorized around 600 verses over the last 7+ years.  While we couldn't celebrate him in person with his teachers and friends, First Baptist did the very best they could....and offered Andrew an extra award, too, for his leadership, faithfulness and independent devotion to the program.  There are no words for how proud we are of his attitude towards putting scripture on his heart.

The end of year AWANA video includes some folks we all know!

Powerwashed deck, furniture and pergola for a week, now ready to enjoy birthday dinner!

Margaret LOVES Dad's new drone.

Sharing our beach s'mores and ghost stories with friends, 6' away.

Piano teacher Mrs. Anderson's son, Michael, did a wonderful job with our virtual piano recital in lieu of the normal performances in PVCC's huge auditorium.  Considering he no experience with sort of editing and a quick decision to do this, we were thoroughly impressed!  He gave the kids license to perform however they'd like, so it was fun to see what some came up with.   I do recommend watching the first minute of each video and the end.  He's done a good job setting up each one and throwing in some fun at the end.

Recommended Viewings:
Video 1: "Shelter in Place"
Beginning - 1:00
18:55 - to the end (This will always remind the kids of Duke Basketball games in Cameron!)

Video 2: "Homeschool Time"
Beginning - 1:07
24:00-26:45
31:20 - the end (for some more fun!)

Video 3: "Silver Linings" (this one is packed with talent)
Beginning - 1:20
1:55-2:45
10:45 - 13:09
16:58 - 19:00
26:15 - end (it's about 12 minutes, but there is some impressive music played.  "A Summer Night" (young man in a navy hoody) is a self-composed piece). And there's an enjoyable ending!

And after a tile debacle too twisted to spend even another moment now writing about it, our kitchen facelift is finally finished!  What a difference a color-scheme change makes!
