Several weeks ago, Andrew started asking me to teach him how to wrap a present, but that he couldn't tell me why. He finally revealed that he had a present for us. So when Emily and Jason visited, I seized the opportunity and passed the lesson off so she could help him with this surprise.
On Andrew's birthday, we opened this note...
"To: Family (including
Molly). Even though it might be my birthday, I want you to celebrate it
with me. I will do that by a gift to you. I am doing this because
families love for each other. And there are many ways to do that, but I
am doing it by giving. - Andrew"
(Note: Andrew has won awards for his hand-writing, but only when he has lines!)
We then opened this picture, which we had never seen. He got it from school and kept it from us.
One of Woodbrook's best traditions is the Sweetheart Dance. A family
event for all ages, it was fantastic evening for the kids, complete with
their favorite local DJ. The highlight, though, may have been Matthew
chasing the girls wondering, "Where's Vi-wet? Where's Vi-wet?",
referring to Margaret's buddy, Violet.
This year marked the 40th anniversary of the Charlottesville 10-miler, but only my second race. Last year's goal? To finish. Despite running lots more and sort of training, I had never actually run that distance. The result? 8:35-minute miles. Quite pleased!
This year, I lacked a goal. Winter training had not been what I hoped
and I went in feeling nonchalant about it. I run to stay fit and no
longer need races for motivation. So to finish right at 80-min was unexpected, to say the least. Many thanks to running buddies the first 5 miles to
help me maintain the 8:00-min pace. The bar's too high now. Don't
think I'll be shaving 6-minutes off my time each year!
My finish line crew!
