Our summers typically roll by; days are book-ended by swim practice, with a healthy dose of tennis sprinkled in and a few weeks are marked by quick weekend trips to hug grandparents. With school typically beginning about 2/3 of the way through August, the final summer weeks are jam packed with camp and a quick beach or lake trip.
But not during COVID. School pushed back to September 8, so with nothing on the calendar to occupy the kids, we stole away to Emerald Isle. Our favorite sound house no longer rents, but Michael found a great alternative.
Hours spent fishing, Matthew was thrilled he caught more fish than he could count!
We taught the kids gin-rummy and spent our post-sunset evenings in the gazebo playing endless rounds.
Matthew learned how to launch his kite successfully and kept it ALL the way for HOURS!
And as happens, things have shifted a bit. While they are still fully occupied for hours among the waves or burying each other in the sand, they now also enjoy some time reading or playing gin. Just means our bags out to the beach are packed a little differently.
Not a week off for Mom but simply a relocation, in addition to work, the exclamation point needed to be put on Homeschooling tasks. This included head shots for their online profiles...for better or worse.
A rough ride for this one. Ocean won.
And this is why we sound-side...unlimited fishing, and unending sunsets.
Then returning home to church. It's in-person, which is "great?", but are they getting anything out of it??? Olivet, where I work, is producing an incredible online service weekly, but it's one.more.online.session. Meadows, our church home for 10 years, is outdoor in the grass, but are we merely going through the motions? One service: kids are fighting over the puppy. The other service: They're picking grass and playing with their masks. Such a shame. Thank you, once again, COVID.
